The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which works to save the UK's small concert spaces.

The star was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his third album his work was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role local spots had in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it weren't for all the shows I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and gear that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The concept that money from shows in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize funds to charitable organizations.

Back when the band won the trophy in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman the singer declared that the group would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer the artist divided her prize across a few good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed new equipment," the artist shared with a publication.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients the group donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked vocalist Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who purchase "stakes" in the properties.
